Employee Manuals

Does your employee manual clearly communicate company policies and procedures? Unclear or outdated policies can cause confusion and pose a potential legal risk to your organization.

You may want to ask yourself these questions in reference to your employee manual.

Are your managers able to use the employee manual consistently and fairly with all employees and do your managers understand why they should?

Is cautionary language included relevant to or stating:

• Employment is at will
• Management has the right to change, modify, add or delete any policies
• The employee manual is not a contract

Are the following policies included in your manual?

• Description of internal complaint process
• Explanation of all benefits
• Rules of Conduct / Ethics
• Leaves of absence including Family and Medical Leave including Domestic Violence Leave
• Employee Classifications and performance and pay practices

This list is not all inclusive and HR laws are in a constant state of change. Let us assist you in updating or creating a manual for you that will ensure your employee manual is compliant as well as user friendly.

Safety Manuals

OSHA requires all employers to provide a safe working environment for their employees.

• Are you familiar with OSHA standards applicable to your business?
• Do you have a plan of action if an OSHA inspector shows up at your workplace?
• Do you maintain an OSHA log of all recordable injuries and illnesses and post the OSHA 300A Summary each year?
• Do you have Material Safety Data Sheets for all chemicals used in your business?
• Did you know you need to keep the Material Safety Data Sheets for 30 years, even if you stop using the chemical?

Exceptional HR can provide a safety audit, create a safety manual and training programs for your employees to keep your employees safe and meet OSHA requirements.
